Federal government grants are specific amounts of money given to a US citizen to use for a specified purpose. Federal government grants come in many different forms with the most popular being scholarships for a college education, small business loan, or funding for a research project. The federal government likes to see new small businesses get started to help promote competition within the economy. In order to help a new small business thrive the government has been known to give away money in the form of government grants to people can reach their goal of owning a successful business. Since these specific cases help better our society the government does not expect the grant to be repaid basically treating it as a gift.
